Really, I think to make the contest more fair, the audeience should have been the ones to pick the top ten. How you ask? Well simple really. Have the preshow and let the audeience vote for who should've been the top ten. The top ten that appeared in the results are the actual top ten. Wouldn't that have been the ffairest way to do things? That would have made it even more of an audeience show then it is already. Then no one can ever bitch it was rigged, etc.
I think whatever was the voting option either by Jadges or by audience we would still have people who wouldn't like it and they would suggest the oposite. So i suppose you can't please anyone. Always somebody will have an oposit oppinion.
But my point is that at least with the way I am suggesting, that the audience would have even more of a say than they do now.
lol John, don't be sore, just cause you didn't make it into the top ten. doubt the audients would've gotten you in either.
and I need to say, if we let the audience pick the top ten what would have been left for the judges to do? John it does sort of come across like you are a bit annoyed that you didn't make the top ten.
Nah. I'm not sore about it. I suppose you have a point about the judges and that. I thought the audients controled everything, in American idle actually. Would the outcome have been different? Perhaps. It was an idea.
Oh gees. I'm so sick and tired of hearing what should/could have been different about this whole thing. I'm really enjoying this icon thing and wish that everyone could just sit back, relax, and enjoy it with me!
I agree with Aaron, Ather, and nikos.
the top people are picked by judges in AI, so yeah.
Nikos, Ather, and Michelle: Agreed.
Maybe I creteek things too much, smile. but its all good!

what a stupid thing for a judge to say. ah well; actually in principle John, I do agree with you, but international idol doesn't do it like that so I like the fact that zone icon is following idol.
and can you honestly say that if the audience were picking the top ten it wouldn't just be a popularity contest? of course it would. people would vote for their friends over the contestants that have talent because that's what people do.
John, you still wouldn't have my vote. You weren't terrible, but there were at least 10 better than you. Plus Istill think there will be an element of popularity voting now, some will get more votes than others simply because of how well they are known around here.
I agree, the show is based on Idol, so it really should follow it.
I think the judges made the right decisions, and i think all our judges are great people and so are the other contestants.
I don't think you should feel bad 'cause you didn't make it, it was great that you just went into it.
Agreed, Loui!
RD, disagree about the stupid comment. The other judges, especially Liz, need to speak out more.
Never occured to me about the popularity contest. And if it were the audience picked it like that with Idle, then it'd be a contest as to who looks hot also. Good points and well taken all.
J, I'm sorry, but that doesn't say anything. How professional is saying what Maddog said on this message board?
ok people. We are trying to present this show professionally, and I think we do a good job of it. But when we are off air, we are ourselves. So I think Ather was just expressing himself. There is nothing wrong with that. John hunny, I am proud that you submitted a performance, but I think that there were a lot of people that were better than you. I do agree with j about the judges speaking out more. And I think that will start happening the next show. But I think for people like r d freak, you need to realize we judges do have oppinions and we will express them. We are not allowed to vote, but on the forums like the bords, and on air, we can express our views about the contestants. When judging, we do our very best to be professional and judge based on music ability and talent. So yeah, I am done now. smile. take care, your gay swishy judge. Remember to swish and flick!
I feel pretty certain that John did not expect to be in the top 10. You people who think he made this post because he is a sore loser are wrong. He was just expressing an opinion about how he thought things should be done, not because he wanted to be in the top 10. He is realistic enough to know that his hearing impairment and the fact that he has never sung before would keep him out of the top 10.
Aaron darling, of course I understand that you judges can express your opinions in any way you please off air; you will talk to each other. But, I still think, you need to maintain your professionalism on the boards as it's the main way you are sharing information about zone icon. What Maddog said, in my opinion was way out of line, (quicknotes are one thing, boards are another,)
that's all, I'm out. do what you want but for the most part, like I say I've been pretty impressed with the professionalism.
No. I really didn't expect to make it. I ddid give it my best, but even I realize that singing is just not my thing. I do better with audio production (Though I am limited in my experience with that too...) and writing music, which I haven't done in a while. I did give it my best though, regardless of the fact and spent time going over the part of the song I submitted, makeing it the best I could. Of corse I could have spent weeks on it but think I put enough time into it. I was pretty worried about makeing it in the top ten actually. I don't understand words to songs, and I realize I do not always pronounce certain words correctly. I don't hear a lot of the letters in the alphabet. I could go on and on to explain the entire thing but I'm getting a bit off track here. My point was simply that if I were to run a show like that, that's how I would have done it. Besides. How do you know that people aren't voting for there friends that did make it anyway? Some could be, and you'd never know. I'm not accusing anyone here just pointing out things as I see them. Have a great day all.
Hmmm I think it’s tricky actually. I think the judges should be more prepared to say what they think during the actual shows than coming on the boards afterwards and voicing personal opinions which they hadn’t previously voiced. If you watch the shows like American idol/x factor, judges like Simon Cowell have no qualms about standing up there and saying “actually I think your performance was dreadful”. And yes, they are so blunt partly to rile the audience and make them look like the bad guy, but they’re partly like it because if you’re performing in the real world that’s what it’s like, the media, the general public aren’t always going to say “well x did his best but it was … a little bit faltering … was nervous …” the headline would be “x went out of the competition after a horrendous performance”.
I wonder if it would be worthwhile having a slot on the icon section where the judges could go afterwards and write down their opinions of the contestants – that way if they’re not comfortable being brutally honest in person it would be written down at least?
Interesting idea. I wonder
I totally agree with Claire's last comments. In the original pop idol over here in the UK, thousands and thousands of people entered. If they had been voted down by the public, the first show would still be being made now! I do think though, that in theory, it would have been kind of cool to either get judges in from outside, but who'd wanna do it, lol, or to make sure that the picked judges from the community couldnt' be bias due to friendships, family ties, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing our judges, I think you guys are great, but some people might say that, for example, Aaron shouldnt' be judging people like Katy, coz she's his friend, he considders her as his sister, an they live together. Knowing what I know of Aaron, I know well that he would be as fair as he can, but it's just a point that I wondered about in general. I wonder with pop idol, or US idol, etc etc, what would happen if someone turned up in the auditions and it was found out that they had some kind of connection with the judges, or one in particular? Would that person be allowed to enter? I know that, when it comes to radio show competitions, etc, people who work for said place are not allowed to enter, so I wonder if it would be the same? Obviously, I realise you couldnt' really avoid it in this situation, this community being as small as it is, but I just wondered if it had been considdered?
well I don't think JHRadio is saying this because he didn't make it into the top ten, some of the ones that did I thought were horrible. But, he is deaf. How many deaf people do you know that can sing? He didn't do bad at all. Just imagine singing without hearing what it is..most people would be totally off key and just sound totally aweful. So I think he did a damn good job and it's awesome that he gave it a chance anyway even though he knew he wouldn't be as good as other hearing people. So good job JHRadio.
Danielle hun we considered that. i guess since this community is so small, it could not be avoided. In fact, I think I will let this be known, that katie did not like what I had to say about her entry. So just because I am her friend, that does not mean I will be bias towards her. But also we as Icon staff, we do what we can to make this process enjoyable for all. John, enter the production contest because that is like so your area! Go for it dude!
